About the Band
Rejan Farley (Vocals)
Rejan is a Victoria based vocalist who grew up listening to swing jazz and the timeless jazz standards from the American Song Book – she loves interpreting these classics in new and fresh ways. Rejan has studied with jazz vocalists Jennifer Scott, Maureen Washington, Kim Greenwood, Emily Braden, Karen Plato and Brian Tate among others. Rejan performs regularly at venues around Victoria as part of Swing Shift Jazz Combo and other jazz combos.
Kenny Seidman (Piano)
Kenny was born in Brooklyn and moved here from New York in 1991. He has been studying and playing jazz piano for over 50 years. He studied for several years with YouTube/Berkeley educator Dave Frank, a disciple of the legendary cool bop artist and teacher Lennie Tristano. Kenny has been a long-standing member of Trio Espresso with Carol Sokoloff and Wild Honey with Margot Johnston. He is a member of the Best Coast Big Band and Mood Swing Orchestra. He has studied with Joey Smith as part of the Victoria Conservatory of Music Jazz Program and performs regularly at Hermann’s (UJAM) as well at other local venues.
Richard Cobb (Bass)
Richard grew up in Ottawa, where he was gifted his first guitar by his parents, which ignited his passion for string instruments. In his 20’s he joined the Navy to see the world and served Canada for 33 years. During this time, he dabbled in guitar playing but it was not until 10 years ago that his passion for string instruments was reignited. Encouraged by a conversation with Victoria bassist Joey Smith, Richard switched to the bass and has been playing it ever since. Richard has studied with Joey Smith at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and plays in a number of jazz ensembles.
Frank Falzon (Drums)
Frank is a Victoria based drummer who grew up in the Kootenays playing in big bands and jazz combos in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, Frank played in the UVic Big Band under the direction of Len Michaux, and played jazz and R&B with several smaller groups who were graduates of the UVic school of music. While career and family took Frank away from drumming for a number of years his passion for drums never waned. With kids now grown, Frank has resumed drumming with gusto and plays around Victoria as part of various jazz combos including Swing Shift Jazz Combo.
